G.L.O.W
Alternative Music Artist
Dover, UK

Biography:

The brainchild of sound engineer Richard Wheeler, G.L.O.W. is an alternative electronic music project based in South Africa. G.L.O.W. first showcased its material at DarkNoise in 2011 and went on to work with German-based DJ Deadbeatz-Kevin (aka. At0shima 3rr0r). Together, they reworked one of G.L.O.W.’s earlier works ‘Aigamuchab’ which was aired at a performance in Germany in the same year. This marked the beginning of a long and exciting partnership between the two artists.

In 2013, American-based radio station The Oontzcast, advertised a competition to create a signature tune for their station. G.L.O.W. was voted the winner of this competition by listeners and fans alike. Desiring to take the project to the next level, G.L.O.W. signed up with UK-based film company Resourcesound and started distributing work via Van Richter Records.

Continuing on its upward climb, 2014 proved to be a year of firsts with G.L.O.W. landing its track ‘Haunted’ in a showreel by Resourcesound, and doing its first interview with online South African entertainment and lifestyle site, 925 Rebellion. Later in the year, Japanese artist Man Bullet approached G.L.O.W. with an offer to remix the tracks ‘Aigamuchab’ and ‘The Phantom Wagon’ both of which were well received by the project’s fans. Following this, the track ‘Anger’ was aired on Hazzard of Darkness Radio in Germany with Philadelphia-based radio station Aggro Driver ’81 playing a variety of tracks from G.L.O.W.’s albums ‘Emotions’ and ‘Myths & Legends’.

In January 2015, G.L.O.W. was given exposure on the Serbian music site Rebel Nation, and featured in UK-based online magazine Intravenous Magazine. The track ‘Killer of the White Rhino’ was aired on a local online radio show called Darklings Dystopia on The Grind Radio. During the course of the year, G.L.O.W. was interviewed by S.A.G.S. (South African Goth Society) Magazine and then by a South African alternative publication, Shadows Magazine. Around the same time, a number of G.L.O.W.’s songs were distributed by US-based distribution company Chaos Music Distribution with whom G.L.O.W. continues to work with. The track ‘Success’ featured as the official soundtrack for the GeekFest SA video.

As a project, G.L.O.W. continues to forge new ground and surprise its audiences. In 2016, the project saw several of its soundtracks feature in a number of local realty television series including the shows iSpani and Uzalo. G.L.O.W.’s latest album ‘Pain & Suffering’ was reviewed by Swedish alternative music magazine Brutal Resonance which gave it a 7.5/10. Then in 2017, G.L.O.W. signed up with its first record label ‘Dark Ace Records’ in Austria which continues to publish and market G.L.O.W.’s music, and air its tracks on its radio station ‘CIA Radio’. The creator and those with whom he works with hope that this project will remain ambitious, and will continue to attract international collaboration across genres.
