Biography:
I am a composer, jazz pianist, writer and novelist. I have written music my whole life – from folk songs as a teenager to ballads and jazz sonnets today. I play piano in local workshops and perform at local NYC clubs, including the Bitter End and the Cutting Room. I began recording my music several years ago. I have released two albums so far and am now working on my third. My music is primarily from the jazz and popular genre, but sometimes folk and rock & roll songs slip in. Some are vocals, some are instrumentals. I get inspiration from classic jazz standards to advertising jingles (the 1960s Schaefer beer commercial is a classic).
In addition to my music, I was a journalist for many years, covering politics for publications such as the Chicago Tribune, Crain’s New York Business and the late Philadelphia Bulletin. I covered city halls, state capitals and presidential campaigns. I have also worked in political campaigns and government for Democratic politicians, including Paul Tsongas and Andrew Cuomo. I have also published two novels – both political thrillers ("The Corcoran Affairs" and "Murder at City Hall").
I grew up in New Jersey, played piano, clarinet, sax and guitar in high school and graduated from Northwestern University with a journalism degree. Then I took piano lessons on the side while building a reporting career and always found time to write a tune or two in my spare time. Now those songs are collected on my albums, with a jazz band backing me up.
