Biography:
Melaku is an independent music artist, songwriter and record producer. Inspired by the classics, while using modern production techniques, he creates spiritually infused pop music with a message.
Raised in a small beach town in northern California, Melaku began writing and singing before the age of 5, picked up the drums at 10, and started recording himself at 13. He co-founded a recording program in High School, while recording bands and artists in the area.
For college, Melaku went to Columbia University in New York City, and continued recording songs in his dorm on campus. After interning at SONY Music, Jive Records, his original songs landed him a management deal that lead to writing songs with producers for artists like Ke$ha, Flo Rida, B.o.B, Jacob Lattimore, and Collie Buddz, as well as various major and independent labels like Universal Motown, Atlantic Records, Tulsa Records, Easy Star Records, and G Note. After completing his BA, Melaku spent many summers in LA in writing sessions, while defining his own sound as an artist.
In 2018, Melaku released his debut solo album "Golden Age,” which he started writing in 2012, after a series of spiritual revelations. In 2019, he released his sophomore album "Dream World," which delves into the awakenings that can come from losing the person you love. The albums received positive coverage from publications like BuzzMusic, AnR Factory, With Guitars Magazine, Tattoo Magazine, The Indie Source, The Big Takeover, For Folk's Sake, and Consequence Of Sound.
In 2020, Melaku's single "Paradise" charted on indie radio around the USA, on stations like WVYC in York, PA, WNIA in Rocky Mount, NC, WDCE in Richmond, VA, WMXM in Lake Forest, IL, KRUA in Anchorage, AK, WXIN in Providence, RI, and WRTC in Hartford, CT.
In 2021, Melaku continued to release music that nods to the classic sounds of the past, while remaining firmly rooted in the present with his singles "Still Within" and “Inner Plane.” In 2022, he released the controversial "Fake Religion," and his newest release, "Peace," is now out.
