Biography:
Divinely raised in the streets of South Baltimore, MD, Russ Shanks blends a classic street style with the message of a Disciple. His edgy and aggressive style is the key factor to his ceaseless growth and stage presence, which captures his audience’s attention from the introduction to the final performance. Through his diligence, Russ Shanks has been awarded a few accolades to his credit: Newsome Award for “Best Hip-Hop Vocalist” (2009 & 2010), DMV Christian Music Award for “Male Holy Hip-Hop Artist of the Year” (2013), Kindred Award for “Best Hip-Hop Artist of the Year” (2016), Akademia Award for “Best Song” (2018) and DMV Hip-Hop Awards for “Best Lyricist” and “Best Video” (2018). Multiple nominations include: DMV Christian Music Award nominee for “Best Hip-Hop Male Artist” (2012), Crunk 4 Christ Nominee for “Best Music Video”, “Best Album”, “Best Hip-Hop Artist” (2014), and Prayze Factor award nominee for, “Best Urban and Contemporary Gospel Artist”, “Best Holy Hip-Hop Solo Artist”, “Best Holy Hip-Hop Artist with features”, “Writer of the Year”, “Best Music Video” (2014). Other career highlights include a noteworthy performance at the New Life Victory Center in Charlotte, NC at the V.I.P. Victory in Praise Conference (2014) hosted by gospel legend John P. Kee, performing alongside Da T.R.U.T.H. and The Reach Movement on the I Am God’s Fav Tour in Baltimore, Md (2016) and sharing the stage with CHH heavy weights like Bizzle, Dee Black and Canton Jones at the Harvest Jam in Olney, MD (2017). Russ Shanks released his latest project entitled “PALINDROME” in March of 2021 and it is evident by the reviews that his evolution is far from over. Russ Shanks is engaged in bridging gaps, reaching more souls for Christ, and addressing social issues that plague his community. His award winning single “Under Privilege” (2018) is a testament to his boldness, speaking out against injustices everywhere.
