Biography:
Eddie Cavazos devoted his professional life as an Elementary Music educator in Northside ISD, San Antonio, TX for 33 years, retiring in 2017. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in 1982, and went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Music Education at UTSA in 1992. He is a three time, “Teacher of the Year”, having received those honors in 1997 and 2004 & 2016. Eddie is Worship Leader/Music Director at Lackland AFB Freedom Chapel, San Antonio, TX where he has served as Music Minister since 1988. He is the Director of Catholic Music. Eddie was recently (2020) signed as a Songwriter for ‘WorshipNOW’, a provider of modern worship music for the Catholic Church. Eddie had his first Choral work published with Colla Voce Music (2019). The piece, ‘Reaching High’ is a 2-part Treble Voice/Piano arrangement, co-written with Mark Hierholzer and Jeff Davenport. Eddie’s most recent project is a 6 song compilation entitled, ‘Light: A Collection of Hymns & Psalms’ which will be released in July 2020. The EP was produced by Josh Cavazos and features the vocal talents of David Kauffman, Allyson Harasimowicz and Zac Taylor. Eddie arranged several lullabies from Mexico in a collection entitled, El Patio de Mi Casa, by Gabriela Montoya-Stier, which was published by GIA Music. The CD was released in Spring 2009. Eddie has also written and distributed a unique mass setting entitled Mass of Peace. Originally composed in 2001, it has been sung since, at the various chapels at Lackland AFB, including the Basic Military Training (BMT) Chapel and the Permanent Party Chapel. Mass of Peace has been sung and heard by thousands over the past 15 years. The mass setting has generated quite an interest in the Air Force community and it has literally been taken to all the ends of the earth! Eddie and his wife, Laura have released seven studio projects, “Sing to the Lord” (2004), “Words and Music” (2006), “Well Done” (2009), “Here I Am” (2012), “Free” (2014) , “40 Years: Remembering” (2015), which was released to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association and a Christmas project, ‘In Need Of A Savior’ (2016) . Songs from their projects have been recognized in various songwriting contests, including the Mid-Atlantic Song Competition (2015, 2014, 2010, 2008,2007, 2003), Billboard World Song Contest (2006, 2004), “I Write the Songs” songwriting competion (2004) and “Song of the Year” contest (2008,2004), sponsored by VH-1. Eddie and Laura live in San Antonio, TX. They are blessed with four children and four grandchildren!
