Biography:
Inspirational, uplifting, and old school are just a few of the words that describe the music of James Bowman III. Bowman, originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has survived a tumultuous childhood and gone from being homeless to acquiring a master’s degree. The intensity of his life experience is felt through his soulful sounds. James Bowman III is no stranger to music. While attending college, he played drums and excess percussion with several national and international recording artists. Brian McKnight, A Special Blend, Roland Gresham, Virtue, Mervyn Warren (formerly of Take 6) and Erik Essix, are among the many artists with whom Bowman has performed. He has also opened (on drums) for other artists such as Tramaine Hawkins, Edwin Hawkins, Commissioned, Be Be and Ce Ce Winans, Bobby Jones, Nicole C. Mullin, DC Talk, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Vicki Winans, Kirk Franklin and a host of others. This young man possesses a smooth vocal delivery that reminds us of crooners such as Nat King Cole while at the same time offering rhythmic vibes reminiscent of Earth, Wind & Fire. Bowman’s goal is to continue to produce quality music with a positive message.
Career Goals | Objectives:
At this point I would say that my primary objective is to sell more records and obtain a manager.
Music Education | Training | Qualifications:
No formal music education.
Musical Instruments | Studio Equipment:
I typically record in a studio outside of my home. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I work with my produce via Zoom or Microsoft Teams to create the music. He then mixes/masters the performance track, with BGVs and sends back to me. I then record the lead vocals in my home using the following equipment: Rode NT1000 Cardioid Condenser Microphone, Focusrite Scarlett Solo, Apple Laptop, Pro Tools. Additionally, I also perform voice over auditions using the following equipment: Shure SM7B Microphone, dox 286s Microphone Preamp / Processor and a Cloudlifter (CL-4), Focusrite Scarlett 18i20.
Influences | Sounds Like:
Artists that appeal to me are Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael Buble', Cool and the Gang, Michael Franks, Barry Manilow (an eclectic mix). I've been told that my music reminds some of Michael Franks in terms of the smooth delivery.]
Live Performance History | Residencies | Touring Experience:
I generally don't perform live. I am most a studio artist. HOWEVER, I would like to begin opening for live shows.
