Biography:
Mario Borrelli – authentic, true and with feeling
Mario Borrelli, a Swiss with Italian roots, is a singer like few others. And a composer who combines music and poetry into a great whole with talent, sensitivity and a lot of feeling.
Growing up in Switzerland as the son of an Italian father and a Tyrolean mother, he left his first musical mark as a very young man in the Soundville Studio in Lucerne. Borrelli soon moved to Italy, where he saw his musical roots. And where his first album "Amico mio" was created in 1994 in the LEAD Studios in Rome.
A few years in Urbino
Shortly before, he had worked as a car salesman in his father's garage and was a sales representative for Citterio in Modena. From there he moved to Urbino, where he spent a few years.
Back in Switzerland, where he joined his father's business, Mario Borrelli changes label and goes to Warner Music Switzerland. The successful album "MB" is recorded in Modena, produced by Stefano Florio, Andrea Battaglia and Filippo Gianfranceschi, and released in 1999.
Finding himself
Borrelli found himself completely as a singer and composer on the 2005 album "Siamo tutti angeli", a fully arranged work that still sounds innovative today. For the first time, Giovanni Boscariol worked as a producer. A collaboration that will continue.
Another milestone in the career of the Italian bard was the masterpiece "Respiri libero" - "breathe freely", which has shaped his sound to this day. Although it was released in 2009, Borrelli foresaw in this piece, almost as a visionary, how important it is to be able to breathe freely and freely. Something that is being painfully restricted by the rise of authoritarian systems and also by the coronavirus.
Borrelli fulfills a dream
Even today, this work sounds as if it were made from a single piece. Elaborately produced in collaboration with Giovanni Boscariol, the keyboard player of Eros Ramazotti, in the Mosaic Studios in Mestre, the music speaks the clear language that Mario Borrelli uses in all his works. With this album, the artist also fulfilled a dream: he recorded the string music background sound with the Oversea Orchestra from Florence.
This was followed by a spectacular concert in the St. Laurenzen Church in St. Gallen, which was broadcast on a TV channel in continuous rotation. To this day, Borrelli counts his performance with his band in the Teatro Petrella di Longiano/Italy as one of his highlights, where he also performed the song "Caruso" by Lucia Dalla, who had died just a few days earlier, in a spectacular way. A few quiet years followed, which were due to the renovation of the car business in eastern Switzerland, which Borrelli still runs today, and the death of his father.
Wonderful person and artist
“I then started working with the great guitarist and musician Saki Hatzigeorgiou. A wonderful person and artist. Our songs were created on several trips through Greece and Italy.” Like “Canterei”, the first number on the latest album “Specchiati”.
"This song was written on a May night in Pesaro. On a night that was so full of fireflies. We sat down in the meadow to enjoy this wonderful sight in the dark night. Saki took his guitar, improvised a few chords and I sang "Canterei" off the cuff."
The lyrics "In life and in breathing... You live like me" fit the story of how this song came about.
